FAQ
Is a weton counted from the calendar date or from sunset?
The Javanese day turns at sunset, which is why Thursday evening is already called malam Jumat. For births after sunset some families use the next day's weton and others keep the calendar date, so this calculator shows the calendar-date weton first and the next day's weton when you tick born after sunset.
Which weton has the highest neptu?
Sabtu Pahing, with 18: Saturday's 9 plus Pahing's 9. The lowest is Selasa Wage, with 7: Tuesday's 3 plus Wage's 4. Neptu is a weight for the petung arithmetic, so a higher number says nothing about the person.
Why does this result leave out Pegat, Ratu, and Jodoh?
Sites that use those eight names disagree on the divisor, 8 on some and a cycle of 9 on others, so a total of 10 lands on Ratu on one site and Pegat on another, and none of them names its source book. SPYLL uses the seven-result petung that primbon.com sets out in full, including totals that divide evenly by 7.
Does a bad weton jodoh result mean a couple should not marry?
Primbon.com itself calls the petung a cultural reference, not a certainty. Many Javanese families still check weton before a wedding, and the decision stays with the couple and their families.
How is weton different from BaZi?
Weton uses only the birth day: the weekday and its pasaran. BaZi uses the year, month, day, and hour of birth, eight characters in all. The same weton returns every 35 days with a different Day Master, so two people born on a Jumat Legi can have very different BaZi charts.
